Sometimes the medicine we need most is the one that scares us the most. For me, that medicine was learning to trust—not just in others, but in life itself, in the divine intelligence that moves through everything.

The Game That Changed Everything

Years ago, I started playing a game with myself. Not a fun game, but a necessary one. I realized I was living in a prison of my own making, built from fears that kept me small and disconnected from the life I truly wanted to live.

I was terrified of traveling alone, paralyzed in social situations, and constantly held back by an endless list of "what ifs." So I created a simple rule: whenever I identified a fear, I had to face it head-on.

When I discovered my fear of solo travel, I booked a flight from the United States back to my home country of Ecuador, hopped on a bus to the Amazon, and went searching for a shaman. This was before the internet made everything accessible, when finding indigenous healers meant asking around and trusting the journey to unfold.

That trip became one of the most transformative experiences of my life, leading to incredible friendships and my first authentic encounter with traditional plant medicine.

The Deepest Fear of All

After months of facing various fears, I began to see a pattern. Every fear I conquered revealed another layer beneath it, until I reached what I believe is the root of all human fear: the fear of death.

But something deeper was calling to me. On a subconscious level, I was searching for what exists beyond physical death. Some part of me—the deepest, most knowing part—was yearning to discover the truth that we are infinite beings. I had an intuitive sense that the only way to truly understand our eternal nature was by conquering the fear of death itself.

This wasn't just intellectual curiosity. It was a soul-level calling to explore the greatest mystery of human existence. Something inside me knew that if I could face this ultimate fear, I would discover something profound about the true nature of who we are.

This realization set me on a deeper spiritual path, one that would eventually lead me to the most challenging and transformative ayahuasca ceremony of my life.

The Most Intense Night of my Life

I had worked with ayahuasca several times before. The "abuela" had shown me beautiful visions about the heart, about how our deepest desires can manifest when we operate from love rather than fear. But this particular ceremony would teach me something even more profound.

As the medicine began to work, I found myself in a space that felt more challenging than anything I had experienced before. The medicine was dissolving my ego—not metaphorically, but in a way that felt completely real and terrifying.

It's easy to talk about "ego dissolution" in spiritual circles, but when you're actually experiencing it, when everything you think you are begins to fall away, it can feel like dying. And in many ways, that's exactly what it is.

The Battle Between Fear and Surrender

That night, I entered what felt like a profound inner battle. My ego was fighting for its life, resisting the dissolution with everything it had. The fear was overwhelming because the ego only knows itself—when that begins to disappear, panic sets in.

But the medicine, the spirits, the natural intelligence of the plant were all there, patiently teaching me the most important lesson of my life: how to let go.

They guided me through the terror of releasing control, of surrendering to something vast and unknowable. They showed me how to step into the void, into the emptiness that isn't actually empty but filled with infinite possibility.

The Space of Infinite Love

When I finally learned to stop fighting and surrender completely, something miraculous happened. I was transported into a space of infinite love—a love so profound and all-encompassing that words can barely touch it.

In that space, I experienced a breath that felt like my very first breath. Everything was new, fresh, sacred. And most importantly, I felt a deep, unshakeable trust in the divine intelligence that moves through all of life.

This wasn't just a feeling or a belief—it was a direct knowing that we are never alone, that we are always supported by something far greater than our individual selves.

But perhaps most profound of all, this experience finally taught me what true faith means. I understood that I could trust God so completely, so deeply, that even in the moment of my own death—when that time comes—I can surrender myself entirely to the eternal love. This was the answer to my deepest unconscious search: the knowing that physical death is simply a return to this infinite love that is our true home.

The Message That Changed My Life

In that space of infinite love and trust, I received a message that would reshape my entire understanding of existence:

Everything is sacred. Life itself is the medicine. Life itself is the ceremony.

This wasn't just beautiful poetry—it was a fundamental shift in how I related to every moment of my existence. I understood that the real work isn't what happens during ceremony; it's how we integrate these insights into our daily lives.

Healing Our Relationship with Trust

What I realized that night is that many of us are healing the same wound: our broken relationship with trust. We've become disconnected from life, from nature, from the divine intelligence that created us. We've learned to rely only on ourselves, to believe we're isolated individuals struggling alone in an indifferent universe. But this couldn't be further from the truth.

The medicine showed me that when we stop thinking only about ourselves and start asking how we can serve others, everything in the universe moves to support us. This isn't wishful thinking—it's a fundamental law of existence that becomes visible when we align ourselves with love rather than fear.

Learning to See the Signs

Since that transformative night, my spiritual practice has focused on learning to recognize the constant signs and miracles that surround us every moment. But these signs are only visible when we're willing to be quiet, to listen more than we speak.

There's a reason we have two ears and one mouth.

The divine is constantly communicating with us through synchronicities, through the people we meet, through the challenges we face, through the beauty that surrounds us. But we can only receive these messages when we're present, when we're paying attention, when we trust that life is always guiding us toward our highest good.

The Daily Practice of Trust

Integrating this lesson into daily life requires constant practice. Every day presents opportunities to choose trust over fear, surrender over control, service over self-interest.

Sometimes it's as simple as trusting that the person who cut you off in traffic is having a difficult day and needs compassion rather than anger. Sometimes it's trusting that a setback at work is redirecting you toward something better. Sometimes it's trusting that even the most challenging experiences are helping you grow in ways you couldn't imagine.

Finding Your Divine Connection

You don't need ayahuasca to cultivate this trust, though for many of us, the medicine provides a powerful doorway to remembering what we've always known deep down. You can begin right now by:

Creating space for silence in your daily routine. Even five minutes of quiet reflection can help you tune into the deeper intelligence that's always available.

Paying attention to synchronicities and signs. The universe is constantly communicating with us, but we often dismiss these messages as coincidence.

Asking how you can serve rather than focusing solely on what you can get. When we align with service, we align with the flow of life itself.

Practicing gratitude for both the blessings and the challenges, recognizing that everything is contributing to your growth and evolution.

You Are Never Alone

Perhaps the most important message from that transformative ceremony is this: you are never alone. Even in your darkest moments, even when you feel completely isolated and afraid, you are held by a love that is infinite and unconditional.

This isn't a belief you need to adopt—it's a truth you can experience directly when you're willing to surrender your need to control everything and trust in the greater intelligence that moves through all of life.

The Ongoing Journey

This lesson about trust isn't something you learn once and then master forever. It's a daily practice, a continuous choice to remember that life is on your side, even when appearances suggest otherwise.

Trusting Your Own Journey

Your journey with plant medicine, with spirituality, with life itself, will be uniquely yours. Trust that whatever experiences come are exactly what you need for your growth and healing.

Trust that the challenges are just as important as the blissful moments. Trust that even when you can't see the bigger picture, you are being guided with perfect precision toward your highest good.

And most importantly, trust that the love you touched in your deepest spiritual experiences isn't separate from your ordinary daily life—it's the very essence of every moment, waiting patiently for you to recognize it again and again.

At Sacred Seed, we honor the sacred nature of this inner work and create safe, supportive containers for profound healing and spiritual awakening. If you feel called to explore your own relationship with trust and surrender, we're here to support your journey with experienced guidance and deep reverence for the medicine.
